MCNP Response to Fatal Shootings and Ongoing Violence in Minnesota

Massachusetts
Massachusetts Coalition of Nurse Practitioners

The Massachusetts Coalition of Nurse Practitioners is deeply saddened and disturbed by the ongoing violence in Minnesota. The fatal shootings of Renée Good, a mother and community activist, and Alex Pretti, a fellow nurse and dedicated VA healthcare worker, have caused profound grief and raised serious concerns across the nation and within our profession.

As nurses committed to caring, healing, and compassion, MCNP recognizes how these events have left many of us feeling a wide range of emotions.

As we process what has happened, we are reminded of the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses, which grounds our profession. Dignity and respect for all people, trust and advocacy, responsibility, social policy, and commitment to society and social justice are the foundation.

These are not abstract values, they are part of our professional identity and ethical responsibility. Now more than ever, it is crucial that we remain engaged – demanding transparency and accountability, disavowing violence, honoring human dignity and advocating for the health and wellbeing of our communities.

It is our commitment to be present for you as we work through these events. When so much feels uncertain, our shared nursing foundation, rooted in compassion, advocacy, and service, will continue to guide us.
