Docs want to run Medicaid plans

The Florida Medical Association, which has traditionally fought the notion of turning Medicaid into a statewide managed-care program with mandatory enrollment, now says it can live with that – as long as doctors are in charge.

An FMA task force is working on a draft bill that would allow doctor-led organizations to compete with HMOs, taking over financial risk for Medicaid patients and deciding how dollars would best be spent.
