2012 brings a new path to tread. As we begin a new year, please absorb some statistics to assist in your professional reflection. The state of New York has approximately 13,725 licensed NP’s. The 4 leading specialties include:

4,886 Family Nurse Practitioners

4,055 Adult Nurse Practitioners

1,457 Pediatric Nurse Practitioners

1,060 Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners

Our state NPA is joined by 7 regions. The Mohawk Valley Nurse Practitioner Association is in Region 3. Region 3 includes Lake Ontario, Thousand Island, Syracuse and Mohawk Valley chapters. Our chapter base includes Oneida and Herkimer counties.

The Mohawk Valley Nurse Practitioner Association is currently host to an available 275 NP members in Oneida and Herkimer counties. We hold less than a handful of obligated scheduled business meetings per year. Generally, we meet once a month to share our thoughts, current events and update with practice lectures from guest speakers on subjects to include asthma, COPD, heart disease, thyroid disorders to name a few. These monthly meetings help NP’s in the area stay connected, updated and remain congruent to the collective state vision for our practice. The Mohawk Valley NPA has a yearly teaching day offering CME’s. Opportunity for community involvement has grown.
