Although MAAPC is does not have any legislation before the General Assembly this session, we are keeping our attention on what is happening and monitoring bills that may effect Advanced Clinician Practice.

The Maryland Nurses Association (MNA) is introducing a bill to make it a felony, instead of a misdemeanor, for 2nd degree assault of a healthcare practitioner if the practitioner is engaged in the performance of the practitioner’s official duties.

The MNA lobbyist, Robyn Elliott, needs nurses who have experienced assault to testify at the hearing during the week of February 20, 2012

I have testified before and it is not onerous, just time consuming. Usually you sit in the hearing room for the morning or afternoon on the day you are needed. It is also an interesting education in our government workings!
