News and Updates

Legislative update – The Educational Preparedness for Practice of Professional Nursing bill passed the assembly and has been sent to the senate. The purpose of this bill is to expand the educational preparedness of a registered professional nurse to require that a baccalaureate degree be obtained within ten years after initial licensure while maintaining the multiple entry points into the profession. Right now the priority is to contact Senator Skelos at 518-455-3171 and seek his support to bring the bill to the floor for a vote. It must also pass in the senate before it can be taken to the Governor. Please call today and ask him to understand the overwhelming support for the nursing and healthcare community to pass this legislation!!

The NYS Fair is approaching and did you know that the NPA has a booth? Each year, NPA members are encouraged to sign up and volunteer time to run the booth – shifts last for 4 hours. This is an excellent opportunity to educate the public about who we are and why NP’s are so valuable to healthcare. The NYS Fair is located in Syracuse, NY and runs from Aug 21 – Sept 1. Volunteers are given free parking and fair admission. Please visit the NPA website to sign up! The NPA website (at www.thenpa.org ) has officially been upgraded! As a result of the upgrade, each member was sent a letter with your login & password to use on your first time logging in – it is important to change your password during this first visit. Note that your login has remained the same. If you have any questions or difficulties accessing the new site, call the NPA office at 518-348-0719 or email info@thenpa.org for help.
