BREAKING NEWS June 13,2012
Today, the NPA Modernization Act (A.5308A/S.3289A) was considered by the Assembly Higher Education Committee and favorably reported out of the Committee with amendments. This brings the bill one step closer in the process to passage in the Assembly! While there is still much more work to be done, having the bill reported out of Committee is a major accomplishment and helps clear the way towards moving this bill to a vote by the full Assembly.
Also, today in the Senate, our bill sponsor, Senator Catherine Young, amended the bill to conform with the amendments made to the Assembly bill that was reported out of the Assembly Higher Education Committee this afternoon. This action makes it possible for both the Assembly and the Senate to act on identical bills. Again, there is much work to be done and the NPA is actively pursuing the necessary steps to secure passage of this bill in both houses.
The amended bill text can be viewed by clicking here and a copy of our Memorandum of Support can be viewed here for your information.
Please keep in mind that things remain very fluid. We understand by reports from our lobby team and the field, that MSSNY is actively opposing the bill. However, at this time we are not asking members to contact their legislators. Rather, members are asked to identify collaborating physicians who are willing to send letters, emails, or contact their local legislator personally, expressing support of the NP Modernization Act despite MSSNY’S opposition. If you think your collaborating physician(s) is willing to do so, please ask them for their help!
In the interim, please watch for future updates and/or action alerts as members will be apprised of continuing developments.
Sincerely,
Seth Gordon Joy Elwell, DNP, FNP
