As Membership Chair of the Galveston Coalition of Advanced Practice Nurses (GCAPN), I periodically review members' credentials. GCAPN adheres to the Texas Board of Nurses (BON) definition of Advanced Practice Nurses in accepting application to the organization. Under Occupations Code 301.152, the BON defines Advanced Practice Nurse as "Nurse Practitioner, Nurse Midwife, Nurse Anesthetist and Clinical Nurse Specialist". Please note certified Registered Nurses as not recognized as Advanced Practice Nurses. GCAPN does accept students who are enrolled in nursing programs to achieve certification as an Advanced Practice Nurse. Please review your credentials. If you recognize your credentials do not comply with the Texas Board of Nursing's definition of Advanced Practice Nurse, GCAPN will refund your membership dues.
