Professional Achievements:
Barbara C Phillips is the Founder and CEO of Nurse Practitioner Business Owner (NPBOTM) providing business and marketing education, resources and support for entrepreneurial and employed Advanced Practice Clinicians (NPs, APNs and PA-Cs). She believes that all clinicians benefit from business education and skills - not only for themselves and the profession, it allows us to be better patient advocates as well. A nurse practitioner since 1988, she holds a certificate as a Gerontological Nurse Practitioner, and a Masters in Nursing as Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) from the University of Washington/Seattle. Because of her work advocating for Nurse Practitioners in business, in 2012 she was named the AANP – WA State NP Advocate of the Year and in 2013 was inducted as a Fellow in the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (FAANP). Over the years, Ms. Phillips developed a special interest in business and entrepreneurship. After opening her own practice she received an overwhelming number of requests from NP colleagues asking how they could create a similar successful practice. Since then she has gone on to create a second practice, founded NPBO™ and create numerous courses on professional development and business topics for APNs. Since 2007, Ms. Phillips has presented at multiple national, regional and states conferences, workshops and universities on business topics as diverse as starting and growing a practice; legal issues for APNs; professional social media use, marketing for professionals, professional reputation, contracts, negotiations, basic business skills for the non-entrepreneur, and many other related topics. She has coached hundreds of Nurse Practitioners and other clinicians on a variety of business topics. Additionally she has been published in various professional journals, blogs, textbooks and has been interviewed on media outlets including ReachMD. She continues to provide twice monthly webinar presentations for clinicians on business topics and continues to blog at www.NPBusiness.ORG. Her e-newsletter, ProgressNotes: Business Tips for Entrepreneurial Clinicians, is published twice a month reaching thousands of subscribers. Further information is available @ www.NPBusiness.ORG
