Professional Achievements:
GetWell Network (GWN)
Nurse Aichler is a member and ward champion for an inpatient, hospital-wide interactive, computerized patient education and entertainment system that is utilized on the patient’s televisions while they are hospitalized. This group identified a lack of adequate medication and disease education among admitted patients. Data and graphs have proven that the usage of educational videos on subjects such as heart failure, diabetes, and angiogram procedures have increased on 4C in FY 2017. Data was provided in real time to the ward managers of 4C that indicates the usage of this interactive system. The increase of medication education as well as health education videos related to patient’s illnesses being viewed during their hospital admission indicated that the clients, their families, caregivers, and other loved ones have been utilizing the system to empower themselves through this education. Nurse Aichler promotes and guides her colleagues on ward 4C how to order education videos on patient’s diseases and how to instruct patients to use the interactive system to look up their medications.

Hospital Acquired Pressure Ulcer Prevention Committee (HAPU)
Ward-based committee at the VA hospital that was inspired by my master’s level evidence-based research class. This committee was implemented to decrease HAPUs through 2 RN’s skin assessment of each patient that is admitted or transferred to the ward using a tool called “Four Eyes.” This tool and committee helped to decrease pressure ulcers on my ward for the fiscal year 2017, by 80%. The committee recently presented at the VA's state-wide evidence based practice conference. Additionally the committee has expanded its project to hospital wide and has champions on 3 additional wards.

Favorite Thing About My Profession:
I am passionate about being a nurse and making a difference in my patients and their loved one's lives. I have worked for over 10 years in the acute care setting with veterans at the VA Medical Center and am a very strong advocate for my patients. I want to be the special nurse who takes care of them and leaves them with an excellent impression of the VA and healthcare in general.
Virtues:
I am a wife and the mother of three young boys. The combination of being a nurse for veteran patients and a mother has made me aware of the fact that I work well under pressure, I am great at multi-tasking, I am very patient with children to geriatric populations, I love my profession and working directly with patients, and I enjoy furthering my knowledge and education to benefit my patients, myself, and my family.
