After 40 years of Practice in this area it is difficule to name specifics-Most important is having this Specialty area recognized for the value that is offerd to the patient's life changing surgery that without the patient would not likely be alive. It is a "Gift" to have surgery and be be able to live, it is imperative to be given the "Tools" to live life to the fullest. Most nurses only see patient's post-op and their view is not good of what Ostomy Surgery outcomess are. They see the people who are Models and own their own agency;Military Pilots: Professional Bull Rider; ER Physician; Marathon runners; or Climb Mt Everest (which most of us could not do). I would say the most rewarding achievement is seeing people reaching for their life goals after surgery/recovery.Favorite Thing About My Profession:
Patient contact, especially love teaching people how to adapt/manage the change in their body image after Ostomy Surgery. Information gives people power and without the correct information they may not be able to LIVE a full life with their NEW Normal.Virtues:
Persevere to achieve or acquire the best outcome for the patient and for patient care over all. You can not always achieve your goals on first try,do not accept defeat. Re-group your thoughts and try a different tack until you succeed.Work History
