Favorite Thing About My Profession:
I truly appreciate every aspect of my profession. In addition to recieving an excellent education, I have been extremely fortunate to work for and continue my training/learning with some of the best physicians/NP's in their respective fields (Dr. (Col, US Army, Ret.) Paul Hubbell, Dr. Fred Chiu, the Bone & Joint Orthopedic department, Dr. Pamela Egan (DNP), Dr. (Col, Ret.) David Riggs, and Dr. Lacie Alfonso). Being a NP and moreover, having trained & learned from those mentioned above, has allowed me to experience the reward of servitude. This reward is without measure when you are able to help someone improve his/her life. I especially enjoy my veteran population, my underserved population, and the "impossible; no other options" cases. Success comes in many different forms and I have not met a single patient with ‘no other option(s)’ to date. My own military background serves as my core foundation regarding my professional conduct and equally as important, my personal conduct. I believe in servitude to all that walk through my door, 100% dedication to those I serve, being an advocate without prejudice and/or discrimination, and teaching empowerment. Although somewhat clinche - there is no "I" in team and as a member of my patients' team, my only focus/goal is to provide the very best care at all times.
Virtues:
My moral & ethical compass always points N. Through listening, putting myself in other's shoes, continued education and learning, and incorporating TEAM principles in my daily practice, I strive to serve my patient population to the best of my ablity at all times. Words such as quit, can’t, give up, abandon, and other related negative, non-productive and often detrimental connotations are not only not in my vocabulary, they are also not part of my core values. I'm sure you've heard the military saying, "Never leave a man behind" - since childhood, this has been a natural part of my code and in my daily practice, I continue to honor that code with my patient population.
