Professional Achievements:

Favorite Thing About My Profession:
I love helping patients and their families progress through the healthcare system. Families many times do not know where to begin when a family member is in a devastaing trauma. I am there from the beginning educating them about the care of their loved one, making sure their multidisciplinary care team is on track to get them back home, or to their next step in the recovery process. I really enjoy being a part of that care team, and educating and providing assistance along the way.
Virtues:
I believe strongly in patients rights and patient ethics. I had a very close relationship with the head of our ethics department prior to his passing a few years ago, and I learned invaluable lessons from sitting in and participating with his family sessions. I believe patients should be involved in their care until they can no longer make their own decisions, and it is very important to start speaking with patients and familes before that time comes so the correct person is in place and those decisions are already in writing. I am a strong supporter of multidisciplinary care, I have seen it work, and I think it makes a difference in patient outcomes. I also stand behind and support evidence-based practice in the care environment. We should be using proven science on patients, not just ideas that have been passed down.
